We took a break from a walk along the seafront from Hove to Brighton Pier to eat at Marrocco's restaurant, and ordered spaghetti carbonara and a pizza classica topped with ham and rocket salad. Even though the staff were busy on a Sunday lunchtime food arrived within a few minutes, and was really good. The pizza was thin crust fresh from the oven and it sliced into eight large pieces, with a generous topping of fresh ingredients. The chocolate ice cream milk shake was a bonus, it was very large, and tasted delicious. Well worth a visit if you are down on Hove seafront.

We ordered Spaghetti Marinara, Moules & the Seafood platter & Spaghetti Napoli x4 for the children. Each dish was so full of flavour & a real delight.
Drinks all round & ice creams to finish and for a bill of just £70 for the lot.
We'd travelled from Sevenoaks and found Marroccos to be such a hit, that we'd come down to Hove specifically to do it again.
Brighton
This place is as old as the stars and just as magical in its own idiosyncratic way - for a start the homemade ice cream (24 different flavours) is delicious, and being a family run establishment there's a gentle, old school touch to the service. The staff are generally warm with a Milanese twang to add seasoning to the lovely food - from basic rustic to more sophisticated nosh. Armed with a hangover I usually slide in here for a full breakfast - I know my breakfasts and what constitutes a golden fry up and Marocco's takes the biscuit as the best brekker in Brighton. A little caveat though to those of you still unchained by the delights of children, on saturdays this place is packed with kids cramming spaghetti down their lug holes and aiming for you with spoon-fulls of meatballs. During the week it's much more quiet and a good place to snuck into a booth with a coffee and book.

The Venue
Situated on Hove esplanade, to the right of the West Pier when you're looking out to sea, and just past the brightly painted beach huts, Maroccos is popular with those wanting to stop off on their stroll along the seafront for a slap-up meal. You don't even need to look for the sign as it's easy to spot the queue of people at its ice cream counter on a sunny or even cloudy day.
The Atmosphere
What you see is what you get – a simple decor with red walls, booth seating, Italian maps, atypical signed celebrity portraits on the walls and chalked specials. Staff can very occasionally seem morose but as this place is open seven days a week until late, all year round, it’s pretty understandable. However, there's generally plenty of Italian banter bubbling over the backgrund music coming from the radio, and the whir of the espresso machine combines with the TV to create a pleasing aural backdrop to the homely smells of pizza cooking in the kitchen and freshly made coffee.
The Food
The pizzas look and taste exactly as they should – thin, crispy, and full of flavour, they're served straight from the traditional clay oven onto your plate (£6.45 - £7.95). Seasonal seafood specials, risottos, and pasta dishes (£6.25 - £9.95) also feature on the menu alongside fried breakfasts. Pastries are available to accompany a morning latte (£1.80) and there is even a children’s menu that includes a turkey dinosaur and a chicken teddy bear (both served with chips and priced at £2.95). From the end of March they're also introducing fish to the menu including salmon, bream, plaice and lemon sole. Do not, repeat not, leave this place without trying one of the 24 flavours of their infamous homemade ice cream including After Eight, Apple Pie, Strawberry Cheesecake and Raspberry Yoghurt, that certainly deserves its outstanding reputation.
The Drink
House wines are available by the glass (£2.20) along with a decent choice of European beers and wines including Peroni on draught (£1.90 for a half, £3.70 for a pint) served in a special Peroni glass. Coffees are strong and will satisfy even the most discerning of coffee bean-buds proving that Italians certainly know their coffee as well as they know their gelati. However, the most popular drink of choice during cold months is the Winter Warmer (£2.85) of hot chocolate and a scoop of ice cream of your choosing.
The Last Word
Cheap, cheerful Italian home cooking in low key surroundings on the seafront that is ideal for families and ice cream lovers of all ages alike. Marroccos has been in Hove for 40 years and given how popular it still is, it's likely to be around for forty more.

Good natural atmosphere. I'm going back. Makes Donatello chain seem like a famous american burger joint.

I can personally recommend the Rum and Raisin, but beware, it can and will lead to stronger, figure spoiling things.
